The Ministry of Social Development on the 18th held the African Child’s day commemoration at Quthing with the theme Humanitarian Action in Africa, Children’s Rights First.’
Through a child representative Minister of Social Development Honourable Temeki Ts’olo says the theme for this year matches directly to what the ministry has as one of its major mandates; seeing to it that children’s rights are protected and children as well are taken care of.
On behalf of UNICEF the child representative Teboho Mosili made a plea to the government, the Ministry of Social Development, chiefs and churches as well as children to work together to protect children’s rights even in disastrous moments.
In making the event a greater success, the Ministry donated pads, Woolworths South Africa donated clothes and shoes and the Member of Parliament from Tele constituency Honourable Mothepu Mahapa donated shoes.
African child’s day is celebrated every year by African countries on the 16th June. The day was marked in 1976 after South African children protested against the apartheid regime.
