The Race for the Golden Boot Continues

By Reitumetse Mabaleha

Maseru- It has come down to the last four games of the premier league, at most.

As things stand, Motebang Sera is at the summit of the top scorers’ list with fifteen goals. He has been pivotal to his team in the lengthy absence of Lebajoa Mosehlenyane, who is second to his teammate on this list.

Even though Mosehlenyane has been out of action for months now, he manages to occupy the second place. He has so far scored none premier league goals. He beats his counterparts who have been regulars for their teams in his continuing absence.  The likes of Lioli’s hit man Switberth Kum-Bin and Bantu’s Lazola Tjokotjokwana are still below Matlama’s duo on top scores list.

As for Sera, he has not played all the league matches, but his presence speaks volumes. He could not play in the beginning of the season because he was trying his luck in South Africa’s Premier Soccer League. He had trials at Orlando Pirates. There, he was said to have scored an undisclosed number of goals in his trial matches.  Though the success or failure of those trials is still unknown, he has come back to his team to prove his worth.

He has not been the only one who scores for his team though, but his team Matlama has clearly benefited from his strides. It is also at the pinnacle of premier league standings, with fifty three points. And the league is in their hands to lose or claim.  Should they win their remaining games, they will sure lift the league cup.

As for the race to win the local golden boot, the odds are on Sera’s side because he is almost two times ahead of his counterparts.
